Emergency Rescue and Recovery from Confined Spaces

This unit is for anyone who works as part of a rescue and recovery team in confined spaces. It includes preparing to carry out emergency activities, entering and exiting confined spaces safely, using emergency equipment, casualty recovery and handling devices in accordance with manufacturers' specifications, rescuing and recovering casualties, following procedures and working safely.

Course outcomes

On successful completion of the course, the student will have demonstrated their competence, knowledge and skills enabling them to meet the City & Guilds requirements to:
     Oversee safety checks of the entry and rescue teams prior to commencing work activities
     Enter and exit confined spaces safely as part of a rescue and recovery team
     Use equipment and tools safely
     Follow procedures and work safely as a member of a rescue and recovery team
     Understand the principles of working as part of a rescue and recovery team
     Understand standard protocols for working in rescue and recovery teams

Entry Requirements

In-date City & Guilds High Risk Confined Space Entrant 6160-03 (or equivalent 3 day training) within last 3 years

Aptitude for difficult work in confined spaces

Fit for operational duties

Physical fitness for strenuous training

Clean shaven each morning of training

Course Duration

3 days with 24 hours contact time

Assessment

Course content is assessed by a combination of direct observations of set tasks, question and answer, a short answer externally set exam and scenario based assessment. Individual feedback is provided.

Certification

This course can be certified by City & Guilds or by Outreach Rescue upon meeting the assessment criteria. For City & Guilds certification, there is an additional fee of £45, and printed certificates are provided. There is no additional fee for digital Outreach Certification, and results are recorded on the Outreach Rescue Database.

Certification is valid for 3 years.
