The Rope Rescue Operator course gives students a thorough introduction and grounding in all of the basic elements of work at height, rope access and rope rescue and prepares them for a role within a rope rescue team working under a rope rescue supervisor.
Students will be able to make themselves safe on roof tops, cliff tops and steel structures using a combination of safety connections. They will be able to reach casualties by ascending or descending rope access systems and construct a range of rescue systems appropriate to the situation.
The course is assessed by a written paper and practical tests throughout.
Course content meets the requirements of BS8454:2006.
Although you will be taught various skills on the course, some pre-course practice of simple skills to refresh your own capability will help you get the most out of the course. You should be able to tie the following knots:
Bowline (including a stopper knot)
Figure of Eight
Figure of Eight on the Bight
Rethreaded Figure of Eight
A number of web sites provide information about these knots. Please note that the final presentation of the knots shown on websites may differ slightly from those taught on course.
Further information on this is available in the Fire Service Vol 2 Safe Work at Height (2006) (Pgs 46-50).
