The Search Management course is designed for emergency services personal who need to develop the skills required to manage searches for missing people in urban and rural environments.

Through classroom based training, students become familiar with the pattern of lost person behaviour and the ways in which they influence methods of searching in different time frames and environments. Theoretical inputs are followed by opportunities for practical search in urban environments, open country and rivers.

In the UK the Police have primacy in searching for missing or lost persons, however, in many areas the Police work with other agencies to manage and run the search, with the majority of missing people being found within the first few hours. However, when searches become extended they are often difficult and time consuming incidents that require careful management to ensure the best results.

This course aims to assist those who have responsibility in management of search operations for land and water incidents to broaden their understanding of search management concepts, practices and field skills.
