Greg Cain

Technical Training Manager

Greg has extensive experience in technical rescue and risk management within high-risk environments. His background spans adventure sports, outdoor education, and professional rescue, giving him a unique blend of real-world experience and instructional expertise.

Throughout his career, Greg has been in positions where he has responsibility for safety, staff training, and risk management in highly dynamic and unpredictable environments. He also serves as a Mountain Rescue team member, gaining firsthand experience in complex rescue operations in challenging mountainous terrain, an environment he worked in as a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor for many years.

Now, as Technical Training Manager at Outreach Rescue, Greg plays a pivotal role in developing and delivering cutting-edge rescue training programmes. He ensures that courses remain at the forefront of industry standards, equipping professionals with the skills they need to operate safely and effectively in extreme conditions.

Dave Noddle

Technical Rescue Instructor

Dave is a highly skilled rescue professional with 30 years of experience as a firefighter with Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service. His expertise includes 12 years in rope rescue and seven years as part of the Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) team. Throughout his career, he has held multiple instructor roles, training firefighters and rescue professionals in complex rescue techniques.

Now part of the Outreach Rescue team, Dave ensures that every candidate leaves training not just with a certificate but with the practical skills and confidence to operate safely in high-risk environments.

  • Qualifications & Experience: 30 years in the fire service, specialist in rope rescue and USAR, extensive instructor experience in technical rescue disciplines.
  • Proudest Achievement: His family — his wife, daughter, and two grandchildren.
  • Fun Fact: A big fan of karaoke and music festivals.

Steve “Locky” Lock

Technical Rescue Instructor

Steve brings a diverse skill set to Outreach Rescue, combining experience in the armed forces, fire service, personal training, and rock-climbing instruction. His extensive background in emergency response and technical rescue allows him to train students to become confident rescue team members.

Hearing how the skills he teaches have been used in real-world rescues is the most rewarding part of his job.

  • Fun Fact: He has been trying to learn guitar for 30 years — with little success.

Ollie Cain

Technical Rescue Instructor

Through a combination of working in diverse environments and professions, Ollie has developed clear communication skills, adaptable teaching methods, and the ability to solve problems in complex situations. His strong sense of empathy allows him to tailor his instructional approach to support individuals effectively throughout their course.

Delegates can expect a structured, honest, and personalised approach, with plenty of encouragement to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and leave feeling confident they’ve been thoroughly and fairly assessed to make the right decisions when it matters most.

  • Qualifications & Experience: Mountain rescue volunteer, IRATA Level 3, technical rescue instructor, outdoor instructor and coach, youth care worker
  • Proudest Work Achievement: Guiding anxious students from uncertainty on day one to confidence and enjoyment by the end of the course
  • Fun Fact: In 2016, Ollie appeared on national news in New Zealand while working as part of the response team following an earthquake. He was interviewed in place of a colleague as their moustache was considered “too full-on” to be taken seriously

Jürgen Dissmann

Technical Rescue Instructor

With a background in civil engineering and 24 years of running his own construction company, Jurgen brings a unique technical perspective to rescue training. His engineering knowledge is particularly valuable in Paratech Heavy Lifting and Bariatric rescue, where understanding structural forces and safe load management is critical.

Jurgen’s personal experience in mountain rescue, rope access, and water safety adds another layer to his teaching. He takes pride in making complex technical content accessible, helping emergency service professionals develop the skills they need to keep themselves and their teams safe.

  • Qualifications: BEng Civil Engineering, Outreach Rescue certifications in rope, water, and medical rescue, Paratech heavy lifting specialist.
  • Proudest Achievement: Earning the highest mark in his Civil Engineering HNC and graduating with first-class honours in his BEng degree.
  • Inspiration: Nelson Mandela, for his ability to unite and lead through understanding.

Jim Catton

Industrial Safety & Rescue Instructor

Jim has over 20 years of experience in construction and renewable energy before joining Outreach Rescue. Since then, he has specialised in Confined Space entry and rescue, using his real-world industry knowledge to train professionals.

His expertise in City & Guilds instructor training, industrial rescue, and equipment management ensures that Outreach’s facilities and training gear are always up to the highest standards. He enjoys making complex rescue techniques easy to understand using simple analogies.

  • Fun Fact: He has sailed across the Atlantic to the Canaries and Azores, navigating by the stars

Paul Amos

Water Incident Management Instructor

Paul is an expert in emergency and disaster management, combining academic research with hands-on experience in incident command. As an Assistant Professor at Coventry University, he teaches emergency management at a high level. His practical experience includes working as a Fire Service Incident Command Assessor at the strategic level and serving as a senior fire and rescue officer.

His passion for passing on knowledge makes him a key part of the Outreach Rescue team, ensuring professionals across emergency services and industry are prepared for major incidents.

  • Qualifications & Experience: Assistant Professor in Emergency & Disaster Management, Fire Service Incident Command Assessor, former senior fire & rescue officer.
  • Proudest Achievement: Co-authoring the original DEFRA Concept of Operations.
  • Fun Fact: He has cycled coast to coast across all four UK nations, including Lands End to John O’Groats.

Mark Williams

Water & Flood Rescue Instructor

With a strong background in outdoor education, Mark has spent his career leading wilderness expeditions, training teams in water rescue, and providing safety cover for industry. He is a qualified PADI Divemaster and an experienced water rescue instructor, specialising in awareness and response techniques.

Mark’s passion lies in helping students develop confidence in high-risk environments, ensuring they have the skills to respond effectively in emergency situations.

  • Proudest Achievement: Passing his Water Rescue Instructor assessment.

Richard “Ginge” Williams

Water & Flood Rescue Instructor

With 15 years of experience in water rescue training, Richard brings strong instructional skills and hands-on expertise to Outreach Rescue. His deep understanding of water-based operations ensures that students receive practical, high-quality training that prepares them for real-world scenarios.

Mark Fryatt

Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Training Manager

Mark brings ten years of British Army service and over thirty years in the fire service, specialising in rescue and incident management. He now leads training delivery at Outreach Rescue, ensuring courses run smoothly and meet the highest standards.

He is motivated by helping new and returning candidates achieve their qualifications, and he finds the interaction with people on training courses especially rewarding.
