Standard BST or BST with EFA? Choosing the Right Training Pathway
GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) continues to include the one-day GWO First Aid module and remains the appropriate route for many roles. However, where an employer, project or delegate requires GWO Enhanced First Aid (EFA), Outreach Rescue can deliver an alternative training pathway that incorporates the separate two-day EFA standard within the overall programme.
This gives organisations the flexibility to choose the level of first-aid training that best matches their operational risks and project requirements.
Two GWO first-aid pathways
Outreach Rescue offers two options for delegates completing GWO Basic Safety Training.
Standard GWO Basic Safety Training
The standard BST programme is delivered over five-days and includes the following GWO modules:
- Manual Handling
- Fire Awareness
- Working at Height
- Sea Survival
- First Aid
The one-day GWO First Aid module equips delegates to recognise life-threatening conditions and provide safe and effective immediate first aid until the casualty can be transferred to the next level of care.
For many employers and roles, this remains the appropriate training pathway.
BST with GWO Enhanced First Aid
GWO Enhanced First Aid is a separate GWO training standard rather than a module within Basic Safety Training.
Where Enhanced First Aid is required by an employer, project or delegate, Outreach Rescue can deliver the two-day EFA course in place of the one-day BST First Aid module. This creates a coordinated six-day programme comprising the standard BST modules alongside GWO Enhanced First Aid.
The overall increase in training time is one additional day.
What does Enhanced First Aid add?
Enhanced First Aid is designed for situations where personnel may need to provide casualty care for an extended period before professional emergency assistance is available.
The course develops more advanced first-aid capability for remote wind-industry environments, including providing ongoing casualty care, using advanced emergency equipment and supporting medical teleconsultation where appropriate.
For organisations operating in locations where emergency response may be delayed, this additional training can better align with the demands of the working environment.
The decision to undertake Enhanced First Aid should be based on the requirements of the employer, project and operational risks. GWO First Aid remains the standard first-aid module within Basic Safety Training.
