To enable participants to provide safe, effective and immediate enhanced first aid, stabilise casualties, and support ongoing casualty care until professional medical assistance or rescue teams arrive.

Target group

Personnel working in the wind industry, offshore environments, remote locations or other high-risk workplaces who may be designated to provide enhanced first aid support during emergencies.

Description
Develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide enhanced first aid in remote and high-risk environments. This GWO-approved course enables participants to deliver immediate lifesaving interventions, manage casualties, use advanced first aid equipment and support casualties until professional medical assistance arrives.
The GWO Enhanced First Aid (EFA) course is designed for personnel working in the wind industry and other remote or high-risk environments who may be required to provide advanced first aid support before professional rescue teams arrive.

Participants will learn how to assess, stabilise and manage casualties using a structured primary and secondary survey approach. The course covers catastrophic bleeding control, airway management, CPR and AED use, injury and illness assessment, pain management, emergency response procedures and the use of medical teleconsultation.

Through a combination of theory, practical exercises and realistic scenario-based training, delegates develop the skills required to provide safe, effective and immediate enhanced first aid interventions while managing incidents in challenging environments.
Compliance

This course is delivered in accordance with the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Enhanced First Aid Standard V6 and the current GWO Requirements for Training. Training content reflects recognised first aid principles, emergency response procedures, and industry best practice for remote and high-risk working environments.

Previous knowledge

A valid GWO First Aid (FA) certificate is recommended but not essential. Participants would ideally have a basic understanding of first aid principles and emergency response procedures.

Requirements

Participants should be at least 18 years of age, medically fit to participate in practical training activities, and able to understand and communicate in the language of instruction. Delegates must be capable of undertaking practical first aid exercises, including CPR and casualty handling activities, and should attend with suitable clothing, appropriate footwear, and valid photographic identification.

Progression

Successful completion of this course enables delegates to maintain competence through the GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher (EFA-R) course and provides a foundation for further rescue, emergency response, and advanced casualty care training relevant to the wind energy, industrial, and emergency services sectors.
