HART Confined Space
Goal
To ensure HART operatives meet TIS NH06 standards for confined space work and understand their role and responsibilities during confined space incidents.

All HART trusts requiring certification for TIS NH06 for Confiend Space.

Description
Compliance
Confined Space Regulations 1997, National Occupational Standards for Working in Confined Spaces – EUSCS03 (entirely) as well as elements of 04 and 08. HART TIS NH06.
Previous knowledge
HART Paramedics who have attended BA training and have manual handling training.
Requirements
Age 18+ and must be clean-shaven each morning for Breathing Apparatus use. Delegates must be fit for training including ladder climbs and moving through enclosed spaces (crawling is required for short distances) whilst wearing EDBA and manoeuvring casualties.
Progression
Recertification & Refresher training is recommended every 2 years by means of re-attending this course.
Theoretical elements
- Classroom sessions cover legislation around Confined Space, classifications, specified risks and other risks including atmospheric hazards and other theoretical elements.
- A course manual is issued. Delegates must complete a written exam paper is sat which is assessed.
- A course workbook is issued which is assessed.
Practical elements
- Practical sessions include teaching sessions and scenario-based training to put the theoretical elements into practice.
- Sessions will include Sav Ox use, Gas monitoring, entry control processes, access equipment and PPE, emergency drills, working alongside rescue systems and services and trench rescue protocols.
- Toe-capped boots and overalls are required.
- Specialist equipment is provided.
- All practical elements are holistically assessed throughout the course.
