Description
This 1-day course equips delegates with an awareness of Work at Height PPE inspection methods and process, and assesses them on the practical ability to carry out detailed inspection of PPE items.
This course equips delegates with the knowledge and skills to conduct pre-use and routine PPE inspections of non-complex work at height PPE and equipment. Non-complex includes items that do not require specific servicing procedures. Common Work at Height PPE would be included, such as: Harnesses, helmets, carabiners, wire strops, textile slings, ropes, energy absorbers, lanyards, and simple devices. Items not covered would include complex equipment with service intervals and replaceable parts such as winches, constant rate descenders and powered ascenders. There is an expectation stated in the Work at Height regs that to be a 'competent person' for PPE inspections, the user must be familiar with the equipment. This training ensures attendees are aware of their legal responsibilities, basic usage of the PPE, inspection frequency, methods of inspection, fault types and means of storage, quarantine and disposal of good and defective PPE. The training component will include getting hands-on with over 80 items in various condition, to see a diverse range of faults in a diverse variety of equipment. The assessment is comprised of a generic knowledge-based multi-choice exam, and then a choice of modules including: Helmets, Lanyards, Harnesses, Rope, Devices and Slings, Strops and Connectors. Any or all of which can be undertaken depending on the delegate's requirements. The delegate must inspect numerous items in each category in detail to make safe verdicts with sound reasoning to pass. This course demands diligence and an eye for detail and the ability to follow systematic inspection processes from participants to be successful.
