In-date DEFRA Mod 3 compliant award, First Aid Award which includes Oxygen use (FREC 3 or equivalent), operational knowledge of operating as a Water Rescue Technician, working knowledge of DEFRA FRCO 2025
Age 18+. Delegates must be fit for this physically demanding course requiring the ability to demonstrate all Water Rescue Technician (Mod 3) skillsets with a high degree of competence.
Delegate should attend the Water Rescue Technician Instructor Assessment/Reassessment within 2 years. It is not advised to book the assessment until completion of the training where an informed consolidation plan can be made to ensure preparedness. Completion of this training and subsequent assessment at Outreach Rescue satisfies Module ‘Specialist Rescue Instructor (5087EXQ)’ for the Diploma in Specialist Rescue and is worth 50 credits.
- Classroom sessions cover training planning and delivery, the role of instructors, reviewing and assessing, risk assessing, lesson planning, teaching models and legislative considerations.
- Delegates are guided through the production of rescue plans, risk assessments and lesson plans.
- A course manual is issued.
- No summative assessment is conducted as this is purely a training course.
- Practical sessions involve putting the theoretical knowledge into practice, with additional input including; group management, dynamic risk assessing, observing and delivering feedback, rescuing delegates in difficulty, delivering practical teaching sessions to peers, delivering training and assessment scenarios to draw out learning outcomes.
- Specialist equipment is provided. There is no summative assessment, though formative assessments will be conducted and delegates will be debriefed and guided through an action plan on completion.
